I gotta make the run and it’s gotta be now. Why? Just look at the fish Greg and I got last fall. Ever since that trip, I have been dreaming of the fish that swim in the Lake Ontario Rivers and Tributaries I have to get a big fish on my line. Not just any fish. I want a big chrome Steelhead or a monster Brown. I am so tired of tying flies and reading internet theories about this or that. I simply don’t care and absolutely can’t wait until opening day. I just want a big fish. I am hitting the road and heading to the rivers and tributaries of Lake Ontario. I had some luck in the fall and I know exactly where I am going, what holes I am fishing and what fly I am using. I was able to convince a few other fliesandfinner’s to go with me and/or meet me up there, so that’s cool. Yup, I am ready to roll. 9 weight rod, floating line, 16-4lb fluorocarbon, egg sucking leaches, neoprene, starbucks coffee, smokes and gas. I will fish from sun up until sundown and pound the rivers and streams. I will stand in the cold water, walk miles of river and do whatever it takes to get one or several big fish on my line. I know that some guys get equal amounts of pleasure out of flyfishing whether or not they catch fish. I am not one of those guys. Sure, I enjoy the scenery and all that stuff but it’s all …about the fish. If it weren’t, I’d be a hiker or canoer or something like that. I love catching fish on the flyrod and I love catching big fish on the flyrod. That’s just me. I appreciate other points of view, but for me, it’s all about the fish. Finding the fish, tricking the fish, landing the fish and releasing the fish. Over and over and over and over again.
