This weekend I finally had a chance to fish some local Utah waters. My small fly and light tippet skills have definitely been adversely affected by all of the Steelhead fishing I have been doing lately. The water was low and clear and the midges were extremely small, size 20-24 range. Frozen guides and trying to film myself further complicated things. I did hook a couple nice Rainbows, one 20 incher that broke me off. I also caught a nice little brown on a dry. The weather was great and it was nice to get back to my home waters. I also met up with Dustin, Derrick and Doug from Orem, UT. These guys were slaying fish on midges and I captured some great shots of Doug hooking up. Unfortunately, out of the hundreds of midge patterns I have, I still did not have the color the fish wanted. I guess it is time for me to get tying the small stuff, again.
Nice footage jason, that pic on the front page is nasty. I wish we had mnts like that in Maine. I hear what you are saying about the switch from steelhead to 20 inch rainbows. I went fishing this afternoon and found that I had lost my touch with my 4 wt. It’ll come back.
It is tough to get used to. I wish I could fish steelhead all the time!
