With this pasts weeks rain in the north east it left far and few spots that had water of fishable levels. But I had a good chance at finding fish in a brook that I have fished for years. I went to pay my parents a visit. I was born and grew up in this small town. I spent most of my days fishing this brook during those years. It has changed slightly of the years but I still know it like the back of my hand. I was happy to find it clear and just slightly up. Apparently I wasn’t the only one that decided to take advantage of this weekends great weather. Quill Gordons, Blue Quills and even Hendricksons were coming off the water like mad. The brook runs through a gorge so most of it is all pocket water and deep pools. For that fact I have rarely seen any top water action there. But under the surface the trout hit wets, buggers and hellgramites violently. Most of my landed fish ranged from 9 to 14 inches. The brook is small but I have landed 19 inch fish from it in the past. A couple gave my bugger a hit and broke me off as soon as they hit. Next time I’ll have to remind myself to go with the 4x. All in all both days I fished were great though. Especially since it was the first action I have seen since last fall. I have to admit there is a huge place in my heart for this stream. It is little and doesn’t hold the biggest of fish. But I never end a day disappointed.

chris — nice looking brook .. super clear water and beautiful fish … i love fly fishing in little brooks like that here in maine for brook trout … the little streams are always teaching me lessons that i then apply on big waters … and many times the little streams and brooks can be difficult and technical .. especially when the water is clear .. glad to see you got out and got some fish …. nice photos too .. love the shot of the fly …
Way to get out there and make it happen chris. It is always good to have a spot in your back pocket for those rainy days.
