When I hear people criticize the Maine fishery, I often nod my head in bewilderment. Maine is unbelievable. I went out to camp this weekend and caught Brown Trout, Brook Trout and Salmon from one rock in one river in a couple hours. The Brown Trout was fun. My wife and I were standing in our usual run and we saw the Brown Trout jump clear out of the quick water. A real pretty fish. So, I tied on a big Bugmeister dry fly. I wanted something big because there was alot of white water. So, I wanted something that would get his attention. I casted it directly up stream and just as the fly was nearing the end of its drift. WHAM! The brown took it. He fought like a champ and it was fun because we could watch the battle through the cystal clear water. A few casts later, a nice Salmon took the same fly. Thn came Sunday night. Perfect Striper weather. The ocean was rough and the skies were gray, so I strapped on the kyak. The tide was rolling out and everything looked promising. I started trolling as a paddled from sandbar to sandbar and WHAM! Bluefish after bluefish attacked my white deceiver. Strangely enough, the bluefish were staying put in one area of the channel. Typically, they move aroud fast and far, but tonight they stayed put. I beached my kyak and caught some from shore, then got back in my kyak and caught some casting and trolling my fly. What a blast. I love catching the blues. They never quit. They fight until the very end. So, as far as I am concerned Maine is great! You just gotta find the fish. So much water so little time.
