It is once again that time of year here in the Northeast USA that only Edgar Allen Poe enjoyed, and his dumb crow. Personally I find this bitter cold moving, toward the South. Memories from the past 30 years of going where the Palm trees actually have coconuts and the fish can move through the water without the aid of fin warmers. After looking at all of my pictures from last years tropical fly fishing oasis and a phone call from my attorney who called from the Fla. Keys, I have decided to pull the plug on this frozen tundra and repeat last years fly fishing trip. I am going to the Bahamas for some Bonefish, then to the Everglades in search of Snook and cap things off down in the Keys casting to anything that will take my fly. Through the years, I have come to know many of the flats on various Florida keys and I enjoy spending my days knee deep in warm water catching all sorts of fish. Crazy Charlies have always been a favorite fly of mine but last year I could not find one and checked several of the biggest fly shops in the Keys. This year I have a good supply with me. The point is obvious, learn from your past trips and reduce the amount of time you spend looking for things you need and never assume they are available at your destination. Another thing I discovered was that Snook fly line as opposed to Bonefish line works better for me. It floats differently and seems to handle better in the wind. The point of the above is to point out that much time can saved for fishing instead of looking for those few things you thought should be available at your destination. This becomes more important if you have multiple destinations and will be targeting multiple species of fish. Last year, I learned a great deal about where to fish in the Bahamas, The keys and the everglades. This year, I will try to capitalize on the lessons learned and also learn more hot spots, methods and strategies. The real bottom line is this. I just can’t stand the cold and I’m heading south.

Greg,
I wish you an excellent vacation and I sincerely hope you will plan some time so we can fish together again. I’d be up for a trip with Kevin and you and me. Or, even a ride to the trail.
