I was sitting in Maine, frozen to the bone when Dave called and said he had a flats boat, a guide and plenty of Bone Fish to cast to. That was all I needed to hear and just the motivation I needed to get me to take action and get out of Maine. I picked up the phone and worked the airlines for some good transportation deals to Freeport Bahamas. A quick flight to Ft. Lauderdale then a puddle jumper over to the Bahamas and I was in the game within an hour of arrival; casting to bonefish on crystal clear flats. While we waded the flats, I couldn’t help but notice the complete solitude, just like those pictures in the fly fishing magazines. Except I was the one here and not just drooling with envy at the pictures in a magazine. Then our guide, Bernard, pointed to 3 O’clock and I saw the first of many Bahamanian ghosts slide by in the water. Dave made a cast and hooked him, Damn. Both Dave and I hooked and landed a few more Bonefish and then it was time for our delivered home cooked meal. Meals were delivered nightly, all home cooked and lunch was made up for us every day. Great food, Great guide and plenty of Bonefish. I was in heaven and far far away from the frozen world from which I came. Our guide, Bernard, is absolutely the best guide I’ve ever had and the only one I return to. The living quarters were 40 feet from the ocean and more needed solitude. Just me and 2 good fly fishing friends. This is a trip that I make once a year during the winter, but I am moving it up to twice a year.
