At the end of the day, while rubbing Ben Gay into your throbing casting shoulder, you wonder what you did wrong or right. Was the Purple Grape of undulating maribou the magic fly? or your expertise in fishing that caught a fish. Tomorrow you open the most colorful fly box you have and the anguish over which fly to use starts again. I think you could throw a sneaker and if it is an aggravation to them, one may hit it. We stayed at Browns Lodge. We rented a Chalet with kitchen, satalite T.V. and with 2 meals a day the cost was about $400.00 for the week. This lodge is on the river with great Salmon pools on the river of it”s own. The 7 day lisc. was 45.00 to fish any of the rivers in the area and there are several good rivers.
I hooked a fish on the first day and lost him in a few seconds due to slack in my line. Finally caught one and Ken caught one about 30″, nice bright fresh fish. We watched fish moving all week, lots of fish this year. People the week before during a good run caught 5 to 12 fish in 3 or four days. Timing is important. I have pictures of people and their fish. My fish is in their being tailed by a fisherman stading next to me, a good sized Grilse. The Margaree is one of the last open Salmon waters in the world, it shouldn”t be missed if Salmon is what your after.
There was a guy down here in the margaree river cape breton from maine i will mention his name as Greg.
While fishing in the shepards rock pool he was spaying not paying attenction to the fishing but looking around at the beauty of the leaves and the river when a BIG fish came up and took the fly ,well you should of hurd the crying when he came back to the lodge. The fish broke off 10 lb leader .i told him and kenny to stay awake the rest of the time
Greg…nice meeting you at the cemetery pool that day. Thanks for directing me to your site. I hooked another bigger fish the next morning at the Ethridge pool…same fly !
