Well here we are in Aruba! Next to the equator the promised land , so I thought. With the promise of sail fish or a wahoo my friend and I charter a 38’ custom boat. The seas heavy wind blowing 15 to 20 we set out. Teasers in the water we troll in hope for a chance for a bill fish or something to rise. After an hour or so nothing… Then a small tuna hits the out rigger , small fish about 5 lbs. What the hell ? We were told this is the best time to raise a sail or a marlin.! Fly rods in hand we are ready off we go. 3 hours we hook up on the down rigger a 40 lb wahoo. Nice fight but no fly action. We did manage to hook 2 wahoo in stand up gear but no rise of any fish. This continued for 3 days with the hope of some kind of fly action. Nothing!! So if you are planning to go to Aruba stay home or go to Coast Rica for real action. If you like beaches like Atlantic City with casinos and no bill fish in February then this is the place for you! Oh well sorry about the bitching, just 1 fly fisherman sold a bill of goods. Good luck traveling. Never see ya in Aruba! Joe-m

hey joe — too bad the elements were not in your favor for fly fishing – but it was probably just “rough going” and a couple bad days — i have had friends who have fly fished aruba and done very well – maybe the couple days you went out the fish were just not on the flies – but those are nice fish regardless — and had you gotten them on the fly — you would be saying “wow aruba is the best!!!!” — like you always say — “hey, that’s fly fishing” – sometimes the fish come easy and other times not at all…..i would still LOVE to fly fish aruba.
Any suggestions on people to talk to about fly fishing Aruba. Any guides you could recommend? I can’t find much information.
Hello Joe -m, fishing is a sport and some times you loose !
Its strange to hear someone complaining about a “bad day off fishing”?
I thought that fishing is to enjoy nature and to relax?
Great picture !
Greatings and good luck every where else!
