English: As our friends arrive from the United States the energy ebbs and flows with the same intensity as the rivers we will fish. Ray arrives in Buenos Aires with Ed soon to follow. And, the big city was enhanced by the presence of Matias Picapietra from Bariloche who was making his way north to guide for Dorado and fly fish a couple of days with his brother. We saw some of his flies that would soon be in the mouth of the famed golden dorado a member of the piranha family and calls Corrientes home. All though his visit was short we knew we would be fishing with him for the rest of the trip down south. So, Ed, Ray and I flew into Bariloche where we were joined by our dearest friend Miguel Sanchez who had the rafts and beverages ready for Espa?ol: poder desplegarnos casi inmediatamente en mi r?o preferido: el Limay.
English: almost immediate deployment on my favorite river, the Rio Limay. It was less than hours from our arrival that we were all catching amazing fish, as if we had rigged our rods on the plane. At this point we had realized we had met friends from the south that were as passionate and fanatical as we were about fly fishing. Miguel is an amazing guide who knows the waters like the back of his hand and put us into incredible spots rowing against the current the majority of time to slow the drifts down and he is simply a force on the water. Just one of the amazing experience we shared was when Miguel backed us into an island of willows and my friend Juani wrapped us around the willows like a belt to maintain the drift boat as I got one cast right down the outside seam. And sure enough, bang! As soon as the fly landed in the water a fish grabbed it. A beautiful fresh brown trout was tearing off line and running down river. After a serious battle of many jumps the fish was brought to hand with a stripping basket as we had lost the net the last trip. Then, we released fish back into the majestic waters from which it came.. We knew we have reached paradise as we fished and camped on unlimited lakes and rivers one after another with the same intensity as if we just arrived. We would access these rivers, streams and likes by using either smaller motorboats, drift boats, or the very effective belly boats. The quiver of fly rods that we used ranged from five to seven weight rods and the occasional spey rod. Many of our fly rods were hand made by the angler specifically for these rivers. Both floating lines and shooting heads were used depending on the pools and sections of the rivers and lakes we fished. Fish were caught on both however the dry flies proved more productive. But, the chance of catching a monster seemed to sway towards shooting heads and sink tips with big streamer flies. This was due to the warm water season which placed the older and bigger fish, for the most part, deeper in the water column. We knew this would just be one of the hundreds of fly fishing trips to follow, as our friendships only grew and as always we learned a ton from Miguel and Matias. Just an incredible trip and will be continued soon as the April run is coming and the never ending hunt for big Argentina fish continues.
Miguel
Great music and I watched the video 4 times and after this Starbucks I’ll watch it again. The video is great and I especially liked the multi doral fined humanus erectus fish at the end. I am going to take a freighter to Argentina, get kidnapped and held for ransom near a river, I figure it should take months for them to figure out I have no money! I am looking at snow fall outside my window so your video was a great distraction from the mundane hell I live in, thanks Greg
Alex, Ed, Ray, Miguel, Matias Etc ..,
What an amazing fish tale. Simply amazing fly fishing in beautiful Argentina … but, more than that the collection of old friends and new friends .. and once again it is stories and videos like this that verify that although many years, even decades can pass, the fly rods and the fish have an almost magical way of keeping friends connected for life. During the time that this was being filmed, I happened to reconnect with a long lost friend my college years. She is now married to the lead singer (Dan) of a band (Dig) that we used to go see religiously at bar in Boston. Well, more than a decade has passed since then .. the name of the band has changed and so many other things .. but the music is still is good and soulful as it ever was. The name of Dan’s “new” band is “King For A Day” .. hence, the title of this fishtale (I thought it was ironic how Dan’s band had such a fitting name because Alex always says to me, “Dude, I felt like a King”) .. On top of that, the song is called “The River”… So, this Article, Video & Song are much more than meets the eye … It proves to me, the one and only valuable thing of the internet, it’s ability to connect us all on so many different but equally meaningful parallels. I know that Ed, Alex and Ray have been friends since early childhood and I have been friends with them for so many years now … And, now the “web” of friends continues to grow and mature with Mighues, Gustavo, Matias and so many other good people in Argentina. It truly is an amazing thing, the internet, especially when PEOPLE are the focus and not the technology. The technology is simply a means to and end. So, I am going to go and watch this video again … Great stuff.
PS. If you like Dan’s music check out his bands website and spread the word .. http://www.kingforaday.org .. His stuff is now available on i-tunes for downloading now too .. you can get the link from the band website.
Another killer video from the other end of the Americas.
Was that a sebago salmon I saw a glimpse of there??? Sweet.
Loved the Dorado shot, and the end clip.
Way to keep use connected to the game down there amigos…
Jeremy, just magical the Music and Video are phenomenal no words to express my emotion, and I thank you brother for putting this together for us here and there. I love it …
WOW… great video guys …
That was hands down the single most excellent fly fishing and music video that I have seen in a long, long, long time! Great editing job and great story. Thanks for sharing!!
Boz, that is man they are the same stock right from your backyard Lake Sebago they have done really well in Los Alerces National Park in many lakes in particular the Carrileufu. I still learning more about them. The best times are the same as there fall and spring runs.
Cheers.. and look forward to seeing you all soon on the saltwater scene. Alex
Hello all,
My name is Dan Labich and I am jealous….wow, what a trip you all had. Jeremy, thank you for the opportunity to provide you with the music…You did a great job man, really….top notch….
Thanks for it!!
Alex .. so glad you enjoyed it! Don’t forget … Much of the “magic” is a result of Argentina’s good people, beautiful landscape and amazing fly fishing ….
Miguel,
That is amazing … that the Maine Landlocked Salmon, from a lake where my family has a cabin on and that my wife’s family has been going to since the 1930’s, are a seemingly natural fit for Argentina waters. Argentina and Maine seem to have more in common than meets the eye. Now, we need to get Miguel, Gustavo, Mateous and the rest of the Argentina crew .. to come and fly fish in Maine .. That would really be a great trip!
Dan … Thank you man! As you can see from people’s comments … it was a perfect fit. I knew it would be, because most fly fisherman appreciate things with “soul” and substance .. and your music has soul .. and that is tough to come by these day. And ya can’t fake “soul” ya know .. you either got it or ya don’t …. you got it, big time .. always have .. ..
I’ll try to write something in English but it won’t be easy. Is hard to explain how the fishing connects people, just being outside make us happy. But, if you are outside, next to a river and with some good friends like my fishing friends is much better. Today I can say that I met most of my best friends fishing and that is something that I can’t pay whit money. Alex, thank you very much for make a grate group of friends, be sure that this April will be grate and we are going to fish with you for ever and you know that.
We wait for Ray and Ed to be back and I hope we can fish with them in the states some day.
Jeremy… we wait for you down here!!! There are a lot of places we can fish together..
That was a grate week I couldn’t spent all the days here because I was working and fishing dorados but those days that I spent with you guys were amazing. Thank Migue!!! Alex, Ray, Juani, Ed and the rest of the grup.

Hi gustavo .. i think what made this video so great was all of the different people and rivers and lakes and fish! salmon, brown trout, rainbow trout and dorado …. i can’t wait to be part of one of the argentina videos someday and fish with all of you!

Matias,
Alex speaks very highly of you .. and, your fly fishing speaks for itself. I very much look forward to fly fishing with you and I would love to catch one of those Dorado! It is amazing to me how different the “North” part of Argentina is from the “South” .. I had never seen much of the “North” before this video with you fly fishing for the Dorado. Wow! Much different. Many birds, big bugs and those Dorado are beautiful fish! Gold, big and mean! Part of the Pirahna family. I like that. When I come to Argentina I would like to try my luck at fly fishing for Dorado before traveling south for trout and salmon fishing. Alex tells me that Dorado live close to Buenos Aires! So, maybe I can do it All! I look forward to meeting you in Argentina and it will be my pleasure to fish with you. I truly hope that at some point you, miguel, gustavo, Juani Etc.. can come to the USA to fly fish in Maine. You all would love it!
Dan , thank you man the music took the video and trip to a whole new level I love it and I really look forward to seeing your band live

I will have to go to Argentina multiple times in my lifetime. If i don’t make the trip, i don’t think i will have truely experienced fly fishing….
Spanish:
Wow!

I was delighted brother, I hope you come back soon but another date (November, December) better fishing and with a bit of luck we will find that we leave this monster in Limay, luck and good year
Miguel
buena suerte ene l limay
Gentlemen,
What a trip; absolutely amazing. It might’ve taken me a while to get my line in the water and stop looking at the scenery. I can’t wait until I can fish in a t-shirt again… soon enough.
Take care,
Jesse
