Africa VideoHi Speed Only
This story takes place in Gabon, Africa The place is called Ekwata and it is a 30 minute boat ride from the capital of Libreville. I lived there for thirteen years, and I started fly fishing there 4 years ago. This Carangue (Jack Crevalle) was taken on the last week of my trip while fly fishing from shore. It had been a fishless morning and it was in the middle of the afternoon when this fish ate my fly and started pulling hard. He got me to the backing but it did not take much time to retrieve the fish to the shore. I passed some of the more fantastic years of my life here and the last four years were particularly great, thanks to fly fishing. I also take red snappers but I can’t count the number of Carangue (Jack Crevalle) that I land.
I Hope I will be back there again because I did not see everything and there is plenty of fish that I didn’t catch like big Tarpon and many other species. If you are expecting big fish on fly from the shore or boat, Gabon is the place to go. By this time, I had only a 9′ #8 salt water fly rod and a large arbor fly reel. Luckily, I didn’t take any heavier fish because they might have broken my only fly rod. So, if you are going to Gabon Africa, bring a 9′ #8 for sport and a #11/12 rod with big reels, strong brake and plenty of backing because you never know what might take your fly…like a big Tarpon.
Hello – AlexisMT555,
I really enjoyed watching your video, seeing your pics and reading your article. Africa is certainly a place I would like to fly fish someday – I will certainly keep Gabon in mind. I know you said in your email that you are off to somewhere else in the world for a month of bonefishing….so I hope you get a chance to see your story up on flies and fins before you go wherever it is you are going…I think you said you were leaving Feb 7th or something..Where are you going anyway??
PS. I KNOW THAT YOU ARE FROM FRANCE AND FRENCH IS OBVIOUSLY YOUR FIRST LANGUAGE – AND I HOPE YOU DO NOT MIND THAT I EDITED YOUR STORY JUST A BIT. CERTAINLY, I DID NOT CHANGE THE INFORMATION – I JUST TOUCHED UP A COUPLE SENTENCES FOR YOU…
PPS. I WISH I COULD SPEAK OR WRITE ANOTHER LANGUAGE BUT I AM LIMITED TO ONLY ENGLISH. IN TODAY’S GLOBALIZED WORLD THAT IS CERTAINLY A DISADVANTAGE. I THINK THAT AFTER MEETING ALL OF YOU FLY FISHERMAN FROM FOREIGN COUNTRIES..I AM GOING TO TAKE SOME COURSES AND LEARN A LANGUAGE OR TWO. FOR THE TIME BEING, PLEASE EXCUSE MY LACK OF LANGUAGE SKILLS. THANK YOU.
Hi, Jeremy, you totally excused from “cleaning” my sentences, I’m not a professional english speaker.
Thanks to place my story so quick!
I’m going to Guadeloup for a month soo more pics and story when I back to France.
See ya
Nice, another country heard from with new stories that expand the world of fly fishing. I had never thought of Africa as a fishing destination but have now!Sounds like that could be a great adventure.
Looks like a fantastic destination. Seems like a good place to spend a decade of your life. Keep the good content coming. Good stuff
